The Project has been set up to identify small community services who employ 5 or less staff and to help them address any difficulties they may face and give them appropriate advice, information and support. The role of the Neighbourhood Access and Prevention Officer (NAPO) is to help older people with low/moderate needs maintain their independence by providing them with information on non-statutory services available, facilitate access to those services and provide practical assistance when necessary. The team aims to provide support to individuals to build networks of support and therefore ultimately reduce the demand on statutory services in the future.
NAPOs offer assessments to older people to help identify the problems they are experiencing and the most appropriate services to meet their needs. A number of team members have language and dialect skills. Referrals can be made through the Duty Team at Adult & Community Services.

The advocacy service that we offer is for people who are aged 60 or over, have confusion, dementia or cognitive impairment (a formal diagnosis is not necessary), have no family or friends to support them and are living in the Oldham borough. The purpose of the service is to enable a person's views to be determined and heard, to have their views valued in the same way as others & to ensure that people who are vulnerable and isolated have access to information and support.

Free, confidential advice can be given to people of state retirement age. Free advice is available from a team of locally based advisers throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Trained to be aware of issues affecting older people, they will explain the will-making process in plain, jargon-free English or Welsh. They are not tax consultants or financial advisers, but can point out ways of reducing Inheritance Tax liability, including the use of trusts within a will. Help the Aged also offers an executorship service. Should you use this service, upon your death the local adviser will secure your home, have valuables stored safely, register the death, make funeral arrangements, clear the house (if required) and provide practical, sympathetic support to those left behind. All the financial aspects of administering your estate will be managed by Help the Aged's probate legal team.
